Garudan Samba Rice
Garudan samba, also known as "KaadaiKazhuththaan," is a popular rice variety grown in the southern part of Tamil Nadu. The grain looks like the neck of the Brahmini kite (Garudan) with a white patch. Koliyal and Garudan Samba (KaadaiKazhuththaan) of Tamil Nadu are used for the preparation of a specialty dish named puttu. Garudan Samba produces 9.12-octadecadienoic acid and has the ability to function as a hypocholesterolemic, anti-arthritic, hepatoprotective, 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor antihistamine, anti-coronary, and anti-androgenic effects. In addition to these chemicals, it also includes a number of other bioactive compounds.
